Poll Top Boxes Alternative

We are all familiar with the typical monopole tower. Most of us think that these are the only way to provide cellular service. There are alternatives that are much less intrusive. The picture shown on the right shows how pole top boxes provide service to a localized area without needless exposure in areas not needing the service.

Which would you rather look at? A cell tower, or a few of these? Local governments are only denying cellular service in an area if they deny the least intrusive means of providing service (2nd District Appeals Court).

Monopole Towers

A monopole tower shown to the right has a slightly larger coverage area, but isn't something you would want in a residential or rural area. These are easiest for the cellular companies to install and maintain and they will lead you to believe that this is the only way to provide service. With the new PCS technology, cellular companies are trying to shrink their cells down to one mile cells. Imagine a neighborhood with one of these every mile, compared to the pole top box shown above.

Sometimes cellular companies will try to discuise these towers as trees or church steeples. The danger of the microwave radiation hazard still exists. Each platform of antennas outputs power levels of 500 - 3000 watts of power. You can't see it and you can't feel it, but it can be hazardous if not installed in a responsible manner.
